On February 8, 2018, a family of seven arrived at the Tulsa International Airport as part of the U.S. refugee resettlement program. They originally fled to Malaysia from Myanmar (formerly Burma) in 2014. They applied for refugee status in the U.S. in October of that year. After being accepted, they moved to Tulsa to be near their family. A group of around 50 people greeted them at the airport during a welcome party organized by Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Tulsa, which is also helping with placement of the family.
