Terence Crutcher was shot and killed by Tulsa police officer Betty Shelby on September 16, 2016. On May 17, 2017, Shelby was acquitted of first-degree manslaughter by a jury of 12. These photos, except for the first, cover the immediate reaction to the verdict announcement, which was read about 9:50 p.m. after nine hours of deliberations. Photographer Joseph Rushmore described the scene downtown as "anger and heartbreak in the streets."
