booze clues 12/17

(tips for drinking well in Tulsa)

Tracey Sudberry, The Chalkboard

The great thing about the Booze Clues feature (and I why I volunteer to tackle the assignment each issue) is the opportunity to sample some of Tulsa’s best specialty cocktails. Of the 24 I had the pleasure of tasting this year, these five stand out.

Best of 2014

The Chalkboard, 1324 S. Main Street

The bartender: Tracey Sudberry
The cocktail: The Batatas
The ingredients: Jack Daniels whiskey infused in-house with roasted sweet potatoes, brown sugar, allspice and grilled cinnamon sticks.

Honorable Mention

The Bushwick
Mixed Company, 3rd and Denver
High West Campfire whiskey, Vya vermouth, Bitter Truth orange bitters, flamed orange peel

Gin Gin
Chimera Café, 212 N. Main Street
Black tea- and red chai tea-infused gin, house-made ginger beer, ginger garnish

Santana Cooler
Café Olé, 3509 S. Peoria Ave.
Mango/pineapple Svedka, pineapple juice, grapefruit juice, lime juice, simple syrup—sprinkled with chili powder and garnished with fresh fruit and pickled peppers

Smoky Mountain Smash
Naples Flatbread & Wine Bar, 201 S. Denver Ave.
Old Smokey Moonshine, cucumber, lime, sweet soda
